1. Two ways to submit text in WebTycho
- enter text directly into WebTycho text boxes with either Plain Text, HTML, or Text Formatting Editor.
- attach non-HTML files
Places where you will find text boxes for submitting work
- * Conferences
- * Assignments
- * Collaborative Documents
- * Announcements (faculty only)
- * Gradebook (faculty only)
- * Syllabus (faculty only)
- * Content (faculty only)
2. Choose a type of text box Before you begin typing, use Account Preferences to choose a type of text box (Plain Text, HTML, or Text Formatting Editor) before you begin composing.
3. Caution! When to change preferences Enabling and disabling the Text Formatting Editor and the Spell Checker after you have entered text into a WebTycho text box, but before you have saved or submitted it, will result in a loss of all text as well as formatting.
4. Use the same type of text box for a particular document Once you create a conference note, assignment, or any other text with any of WebTycho's formatting methods, (Plain Text, TFE, HTML) use that same method each time you edit that document. You needn't use the same method for all documents, but you should use the same method for a particular document.
For example, if you edit a document created with the Text Formatting Editor (TFE) and have since disabled that feature, you will receive a dialog box warning you that you currently have the TFE disabled. You will be given the opportunity to enable TFE before you proceed. If you do not, then formatting will be lost.
5. Work offline to protect your work The importance of composing and saving lengthy assignments, conference notes, and content submissions offline onto your computer cannot be overstated. Internet connections may be lost at any time, and for security purposes, WebTycho times-out. When this happens, any document in WebTycho that has not yet been saved or submitted will be permanently lost. After composing in a word processor, either copy and paste or submit as attachments. Copy and Paste from Microsoft Word or any other software only into the TFE. Do not paste into a Plain Text Box. Here's why...
6. WebTycho's save features Save text to avoid losing work as a result of internet disconnection, power failure, or inactivity.
- Assignment Area: Use WebTycho's Save as Draft button frequently. This will save your work to our server. Then return to the document to Edit and continue work. Don't worry: your instructor will not be able to see it until you click Submit for Grading.
- Conference Area: Simply Submit, and then return to Edit and continue work. To let class members know that the note is unfinished you may like to add a note at the bottom, such as "Unfinished" or the like.
7. Size limit Keep in mind that there is a limit to the amount (~30K-35K) of text that can fit within these text boxes. Anything larger should be attached as a file for submission. Attempts to submit textual material larger than this will result in loss of text.
