Types of WebTycho User Classifications
Student. Students have read access to all areas of the classroom and write access in Conferences, Assignments, and Study Groups as determined by the instructor. The instructor rosters students into study groups, and students can see, enter, and participate in only the study groups into which the teacher has rostered them.
Instructor. The term Instructor is used in a very limited sense to mean the lead faculty member in charge of a class. The instructor is responsible for the content and design of the course.
Faculty. Faculty have access to compose and edit class announcements; post a biography; add content to the syllabus; create and manage conferences and study groups; and read, edit, and grade all student assignments. Faculty may place additional written materials for the class (in .txt or .html format or as a Web link) in the Course Content area, although undergraduate faculty are not required to do so.
Teacher's Assistants (TAs). TAs have faculty access to all areas except Manage Syllabus and Manage Course Content.
Visitor. Visitors observe rather than fully participate in a class. A visitor is able to read all fully public parts of the classroom (excluding study groups unless rostered in by the faculty member). Visitors are also able to use the Class Members e-mail functions. Visitors may view the Assignment Folder, but their submissions will not appear in the Gradebook.
Tycho Inspect. Tycho Inspect users may visit any class in the WebTycho database in read-only mode. Tycho Inspect members see the faculty Class Menu, minus the faculty center.
Tycho Admin. An administrator may enter any class, delete (but not edit) any conference note, create and remove from class (but not delete from the system) users and sections. Admin access is strictly controlled by LeADS. Administrators have faculty abilities in classes when using the Visit this Class feature in Manage Sections. Please see the Admin Guide available upon login in the Systems Options menu.
Guest. With the Login ID "UMUC Guest," and the password "UMUC," a prospective student or interested other may login and view portions of the WebTycho interface. The guest's abilities are limited to accesing the Help Desk Chat, the Help Site and the Orientation class.
