 SETTING UP

CONNECTING TROUBLES

If you are unable to connect to WebTycho, log in, or enter your classroom, check the list below for possible solutions.

If you call WebTycho Support, among the first things we may recommend are as follows:

  1. Make sure your browser settings are correct. This is extremely important. In particular, "Accept All Cookies" and "Enable JavaScript" must be turned on.
  2. Clear your browser cache
  3. Upgrade to the latest version of your browser (i.e. Netscape or Internet Explorer)
  4. Use Trace Route or Ping Plotter diagnostics to find breakdowns in internet traffic.
  5. Disable pop-up blocker software.
  6. Disable personal firewalls

OTHER POSSIBLE REASONS FOR CONNECTION TROUBLES

Is your registration complete and your UMUC account in order (e.g., bills paid)?
If you registered less than 24 hours ago, your account may not be in the system yet.
Contact your registration office.

Do you have a security firewall at your workplace computer network?
You need access to port 80 to connect to WebTycho and your classroom; ports 1533, and 8082 to use the WebTycho chat room; and port 5443 to use ISIS. Some firewalls do not permit accessing some or all of these ports.

 Is your classroom available yet?
Your WebTycho classroom will not be available for you to work in until one week before the official start date of the class. Check the course calendar.

Are you using the correct WebTycho URL and typing it correctly?
See
Logging in.

Are you properly connected to the Internet via your ISP or LAN?
Make sure you have not been
timed out.

Do you have your correct user name and password for the WebTycho URL you are accessing? Are you typing it correctly?
If you use Nighthawk, you have a unique user name and password that is separate from your user name and password for a regular WebTycho class.

Type your password carefully. Be sure your caps lock is not on; do not confuse a numeral 1 with a lowercase L; do not insert any spaces.

Have you forgotten your password and need to reset it?
At the WebTycho login page click on Login Wizard and you will be given your temporary ("original") computer-generated password, which you will then have to reset to one of your own choice when you log in the next time.

If you have checked through the items in this checklist and continue to have difficulties access in or logging in to WebTycho, please contact WebTycho Support.
