JVM and JavaScript
JavaScript is different than the JVM.  JavaScript is required and lets you see what others have written with the TFE.  The JVM is optional and lets you write with the TFE yourself.

Non-TFE Spell Check

  • If you use the TFE, then you will use the Spell Check tool provided within the TFE.
  • If you use HTML Text Box or Plain Text Box instead of the TFE, then you may use the Non-TFE Spell Check
  • Spell Check is not available for WebTycho title boxes.
  • For spelling changes to be saved, you must finish checking the entire text box. This means that once you have begun a spell check session, if you click Cancel at any point before finishing the document, then all spelling changes made until then will be lost.  Also note that the dictionary has a size limit of 64k.

If Spell Check is disabled
At the bottom of each text creation page the note "Spell Check is Disabled" will appear.

To enable (or disable) the Spell Check

  • Go to Options (in the toolbar at the top of your screen).
  • Select Account Preferences.
  • Check the radio button for Spell Check.
  • Once enabled it will be available throughout all of your WebTycho classes until you disable it.

Why would I disable Spell Check?
Spell Check is a Java applet that downloads each session so it may take several seconds or minutes for the page to appear. If you know that you will not use the Spell Check and you find you page loads slowly then you might want to turn it off for now. Read more about speed and performance in WebTycho.

To use Spell Check on text composed in a WebTycho text box

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page
  • Click on the Check Spelling button
  • A new window will open. The spell check works similar to spell check functions in word processing programs except, once a spell checking session has begun, if you click  Cancel at any time all changes made until then will be lost.
